Columbiana Graduate Takes Jefferson Cup S.

From TDN
Louisville, KY (September 29, 2018)-Hot Springs was a winner second out June 3 in a Churchill Downs maiden special weight over the turf at 1 1/16 miles, then took a one mile allowance over the same surface June 29. Hot Springs looked well on his way through his conditions. Competing in graded contests at 1 1/8 miles in Delaware Park’s GIII Kent S. July 14 and Saratoga’s GIII Saranac S. Sept 1 resulted in a Kent second and a Saranac fourth.

Back to his favorite course here, Hot Springs remained undefeated on the Churchill lawn in taking the $100,000 Jefferson Cup S. Covered up while tracking the pace, he angled out coming off the turn and reeled in the 27-1 frontrunner in the closing strides to prevail by a length.

Hot Springs was a $750,000 September yearling in the consignment of Columbiana Farm for breeder Bo Hirsch LLC. He has earned $187,720 from his six starts. His stakes-placed dam is out of the fast Miss Houdini, winner of the GI Del Mar Debutante in 2002 and producer of MGSW and sire Papa Clem (Smart Strike). Miss Houdini herself is out of the two-time GISW Magical Maiden (Lord Avie) and is from the extended family of recently retired 2017 champion 2-year-old colt Good Magic (Curlin). Magical Victory has a juvenile filly named Bye Bye Bully’s (Stay Thirsty), a yearling colt by Declaration of War, and has been bred to Dialed In for 2019.
